Genealogy of the family Tielenius Kruythoff

Origin of the data

The facts about the family Tielenius Kruythoff are not searched for by myself. All the older data were complete in a file in the Dutch centre of genealogy and heraldry in the Hague. Some familymembers provided me with with the more recent data

Some background

The genealogy of the family T.K. was described for the first time in 1913, in the third edition of the "Nederlands Patriciaat". This is a book that is published by the centre of heraldy mentioned above and it gives each year a genealogy of several families which are, or were, of some importance in the Netherlands. In this publication Willem Kruithoff, born in 1654, was still described as the founder of the family. Around 1930-1935 W.Wijnandts van Resandt did further research and he found 2 earlier generations.
The family lived in Meurs, a village near Kleef in Germany. In the 16th century this area was a property of prince Maurits van Nassau. The first person which was certainly a member of the family was a female: Beeltgen van Druijff. She was married to Conrad Reinharts who called himself later Conrad Krauthoven. Later she married Conrad von Vreden. An explanation that is given about the name Krauthoven is that the family could have inhabitated a farm called Krauthoven (hoven=farm). The name Krauthoven changed gradually into Kruythoff.
Willem Abraham Kruythoff (5th generation) was raised in the family of his uncle Johannes Tielenius, a brother of his mother Agneta. The Tielenius family was a well known family of clergymen. Because the family Tielenius did not have male descendants the name Tielenius was coupled to Kruythoff.
